At Oculus, your experience is everything. Here, you will find a friendly team of eye care professionals who care about how you see the world…and how the world sees you. Founded by optometrist Dr. Jeff Woerner, who makes South Lake Union his home, Oculus Eyecare is dedicated to providing personalized service, professional eye care, and a diverse collection of independent eyewear brands.
I opened Oculus Eyecare in April 2013 in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood where I live with my wife and young daughter. Starting SLU’s first optometry practice and optical boutique has fulfilled a dream to open my own business, allowing me to serve local residents, support local non-profits, and give back to those in need.
Growing up in Hudson, Ohio, I graduated from The Ohio State University College of Optometry. I have practiced optometry in the Seattle area for 16 years, managing thousands of pre- and post-operative patients, successfully treated eye disease, and fitting countless glasses and contact lenses. In this process, I discovered my passion for primary eye care.
Outside of work, I enjoy muddy cyclocross races, powder days on my snowboard, yoga, and spending time with my family and friends.
I’m a west coaster and studied travel and hospitality at the Art Institute of Seattle and UNLV. When I relocated to Seattle I began working in the optical industry and discovered a new passion – glasses!
Working in the industry since 2004, I take pride in my work and enjoy matching my clients to the perfect pair of glasses. I’ve helped numerous individuals re-envision themselves in glasses and find happiness in their new image. I gain the most satisfaction when patients walk away not only looking amazing, but feeling great too. These beautiful people keep me focused and excited about my career.
Outside of work I make time for yoga, epicurean experimentation and my occasional esoteric information binges. I love to travel and am always planning my next trip.
I am grateful to have found my calling and to be a part of the Oculus Eyecare team.
As a California native, I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. I spent my undergraduate years at UCLA where I received a BS in Biochemistry. Between undergrad and optometry school, I found myself exploring different careers. I ended up finding a position as an optometric technician, and loved it! A few years later, I wound up at Pacific University College of Optometry in Oregon to become an optometrist myself.
While in school, I was able to travel to Costa Rica, the Philippines, and Guatemala with Amigos, PUCO’s student volunteer group. In addition, my student externships allowed me to study in China and Japan. I feel honored to have seen these different cultures, and am humbled by the experiences.
Once I graduated in 2011, I moved to Athens, GA and then Austin, TX. While I loved my time at both these places, I am thrilled to be back in the Pacific NW! I definitely missed the mountains, scenery, and food! I’m a big foodie, and am always on the lookout for new places to eat.
When I’m not practicing optometry, I am commonly found around town knitting and designing in public with friends or at The Fiber Gallery, where I work part time, also! If you’re also a knitter/crocheter/spinner, please feel free to find me on Ravelry as norichan. :o)
